Dance Dance Immolation
For the last few months I’ve been working with some friends on an art project, if it is art, called Dance Dance Immolation. You know the game Dance Dance Revolution? It’s kind of a worldwide craze at the moment. If not, there there’s a description of it here. We’re doing this, with a big two-player setup and projection screen, and adding fire. The players will each wear one of those big silver fire-proof suits. When they do well, the computer will fire big flamethrowers above their hears. When they do poorly, the computer will fire flamethrowers AT them.
Yes really. We’ve already tested the suits. Getting hit with a flamethrower is really a fantastic amount of fun. There are four of us working on this. We’re calling ourselves Interpretive Arson. We’ve even been given a grant of $1000 to do this at Burning Man. I am extremely happy that someone is actually paying for me to shoot people with fire. But it’s not nearly enough for the total system, so we are throwing a fundraiser on June 4th which will be all flaming food (ala the fire cake, but also things like burn-your-own creme brulee.)
For more, see www.interpretivearson.com. If you’re really curious, our safety plan is also up. Discussions about the project take place at ddi.tribe.net.
